for a used Sommer
Saddle? It is very helpful to take note of the serial number of any used Sommer Saddle offered for sale. Especially for the dressage models....the first 2 numbers of the serial number are the YEAR in which the saddle was built. In 2006, Sommer made some important improvements to the panels underneath their dressage saddles, namely the shape of the panels was shortened vertically in the shoulder area, to allow for better freedom of movement of the shoulder of the horse. A Sommer saddle built previously to 2006 is still a very nice saddle, but it is not identical to the newest version of the Sommer Saddle being sold.
